Liverpool and have been linked with a move for Bukayo Saka, but former Reds winger Stewart Downing has advised the youngster to stay with the Gunners.

The 20-year-old has been in fine form this season for Arsenal, bouncing back impressively from disappointment last summer with England, when he missed the last penalty of the shoot out in the final against Italy.

He is enjoying his best season to date in terms of goals, netting nine times in the Premier League and helping Arsenal get into a great position to grab the fourth place.

Saka is under contract until 2024 and talks over a new deal are underway, but if the Gunners were to miss out on a top four place, report that Liverpool and City are ready to make a move for him this summer.

However, Downing, who played for Liverpool from 2011-13, reckons the England forward should stay where he is and continue to develop and play regularly under Mikel Arteta.

‘Would I worry about losing him if I was an fan? He’d fit in to any club in the Premier League, that’s for sure,’ said Downing, speaking exclusively to Ladbrokes at its launch of their 5-A-Side bet on England v Switzerland.

‘But, for him, he’s currently playing for a manager who trusts him and he can see a plan going forward. You’ve got to think that if he went to somewhere like Man City, is he going to play every week?

‘He might win more trophies but with Arsenal he’s at a club who are building and getting better with every game.

‘You never know, in four or five years’ time, maybe they’ll become one of the top teams in the league again. They’ve certainly got the backing. It’s a tremendous club with the best of facilities.

‘For me, Saka is best off staying at Arsenal for the foreseeable future.’
