Former Manchester United star Bastian Schweinsteiger hails appointment of Erik ten Hag

Bastian Schweinsteiger is impressed with ’s appointment of Erik ten Hag as manager, having seen the Dutchman in action when in charge of his brother at .

Ten Hag has been announced as the Red Devils’ next permanent manager, due to take over from interim boss at the end of the season, when he will end his stint with .

It will be a big job for the 52-year-old, with a huge rebuilding of the squad at Old Trafford expected to begin over the summer as they look to move back into contention for the Premier League title.

Schweinsteiger thinks Ten Hag is a good move for his former side, having seen him coach his brother Tobias in the Bayern second team.

‘Definitely a good choice,’ tweeted the German. ‘I was able to watch a couple of games of him with the FC Bayern 2nd team since he coached my brother a few years ago.

‘I’m looking forward to seeing him at Old Trafford. Let’s see, if he can contribute his share to turn things into the right direction.’

Ten Hag coached the second team at Bayern from 2013-15, before moving to Utrecht and then Ajax in 2017, where he has really built his reputation.

He has picked up two Eredivisie titles with the Dutch giants and expects to add a third before he departs for Manchester.

‘I know the history of this great club and the passion of the fans, and I am absolutely determined to develop a team capable of delivering the success they deserve.

‘It will be difficult to leave Ajax after these incredible years, and I can assure our fans of my complete commitment and focus on bringing this season to a successful conclusion before I move to Manchester United.’
