midfielder Frenkie De Jong is set to turn down the chance to join this summer due to their lack of football, according to reports in Spain.
Earlier this week, reports claimed that United were in the driving seat to sign De Jong at the end of the season, with Barcelona keen to balance their finances by selling their £65 million signing.
De Jong would also have the chance to link back up with incoming United manager Erik ten Hag, who he played under for nearly two years at .
Reports this week have claimed that Ten Hag has made the signing of De Jong one of his top priorities for United’s summer transfer window.
But according to , De Jong has ‘no interest’ in joining United as they are out of the Champions League.
De Jong is said to have told those close to him that his preference is to remain at Barcelona but if he were to leave this summer, he would only be willing to join a team who are capable of winning the Champions League.
Manchester City, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain have also been monitoring De Jong’s situation at Barca.
Meanwhile, Mundo Deportivo report that Barca boss Xavi has also made it clear to De Jong that he is part of his plans going forward.
‘He is playing at a very good level and has to continue here – he can be one of the best midfielders in the world for years to come,’ Xavi said when asked about De Jong’s future last month.
‘If it were up to me, I would continue here for many more years. He is very important and can mark an era here.
‘He has to score, assist and he has to be the protagonist.’
