Frenkie de Jong has returned to training struggling for motivation with his club future hanging in the balance.
The Netherlands international reported for training on Monday morning following his summer break amid ongoing uncertainty over his future at the Camp Nou with eager to sign him.
United have reportedly agreed a deal in principle to sign the 25-year-old but a deal is still some way off completion with Barcelona still publicly stating he is not for sale.
Reports on Sunday claimed de Jong and his agent Ali Dursun are ‘angry’ with the club, frustrated with how details of the player’s current Barcelona contract were L***ed last week.
Aware that Barcelona are trying to sell him against his will, de Jong is said to be upset with how little value the club have placed in him with reporting it is difficult for the Dutchman to motivate himself.
The report adds de Jong’s relationship with Barcelona boss Xavi is also more strained than ever, aware that the coach does not fully trust him.
De Jong stated earlier this summer that he is happy at his ‘dream club’ but United are said to be confident that the midfielder will join them this summer.
Richard Arnold, the chief executive officer, and director of football John Murtough have been pictured in Barcelona having held talks with Barcelona officials.
While Youri Tielemans and Ruben Neves have been named as possible alternatives, de Jong remains United’s top priority with hope a deal can still be done to bring him to Old Trafford.
