have been assured that Frenkie de Jong remains keen on a move to Old Trafford – provided he can resolve an issue with over his deferred wages.

The Dutchman has publicly stated that he wants to remain at the Camp Nou, while Barcelona president Joan Laporta says the club have no plans to sell De Jong.

But United reached a broad outline of an agreement with Barcelona to sign the Netherlands international last month.

It’s a disagreement with Barcelona over £17m worth of deferred wages that is holding up any move to Old Trafford after De Jong agreed to reduce his salary after the pandemic started in March 2020.

With no agreement over the issue, it’s been suggested that De Jong could remain at the club as he’s unwilling to take a paycut.

But the Telegraph say De Jong’s camp have given United assurances that he’s still keen to make a move to Old Trafford.

It comes after De Jong returned to Barcelona training today for his first day of pre-season.

Christian Eriksen has agreed personal terms over a move to Old Trafford but the Dane must undergo stringent medical tests before completing his move, given his history.

The Dane turned down returns to Brentford and Tottenham to agree to United’s offer.

United also hold an interest in Ajax winger Antony, while his team-mate Lisandro Martinez is another target.
