new boy Gabriel Jesus has revealed the crucial role Edu played in convincing him to turn down for the Gunners.

The Brazilian joined Arsenal in a £45million deal earlier this month, replacing as the club’s first choice striker.

Jesus worked with Mikel Arteta during the Spaniard’s time as ’s assistant at Manchester City and it was felt that was a significant part of the striker’s decision to move to north London.

Arsenal’s failure to qualify for the Champions League threatened the club’s chances, particularly as Tottenham and Chelsea could both offer Jesus a chance to play in Europe’s elite competition.

But Jesus has revealed that it was a conversation with Edu – not Arteta – that helped convince him to move to the Gunners.

‘Well first of all when Edu came to talk with me and asked me how I am, how I was feeling as a person and then as a football player, what I wanted in the future,’ said Jesus.

‘The conversation between me and Edu was amazing because I was so happy with the project of the club and the straight away I say ‘yes’ I think my way is in London.

Jesus’ decision to join the Gunners was a surprising one given the constant supply of silverware he enjoyed during his five years at Manchester City.

The Brazilian, though, was never first choice and Arsenal offer him the opportunity to become so.

But Jesus says his decision to join the club was not because he wants to be a ‘superstar’.

‘I don’t want to be the main man here, i don’t want to be a superstar,’ said Jesus.

‘I want to play and enjoy football, it’s what I love to do. I came to help the guys. They are amazing players as well. It’s a club that everyone wants to win together.’
