Former defender Glen Johnson has urged the club to sign Borussia Dortmund wonderkids and Jude Bellingham if they can afford them.

Speaking to , Johnson was asked who he would like to see move to Stamford Bridge, should the rumours suggesting that the Blues are willing to sell underwhelming forwards and Timo Werner be accurate.

Lukaku, the club’s record signing, re-joined Chelsea last summer from Inter Milan but has struggled since his return with just five league goals, and he stoked controversy in December when, in an interview with Sky Italia, he expressed a displeasure with manager and a desire to return to Inter.

Werner, meanwhile, has not fared much better, having scored just nine Premier League goals in 51 appearances since moving from RB Leipzig in 2020 for £47.5million.

Chelsea’s inability to find a consistent and prolific striker has plagued them for many years, and while both Lukaku and Werner were tipped to be that player, neither has delivered thus far, and as a result the club are now reportedly willing to cut their losses and reinvest in new transfers.

And Johnson has revealed who he would splash the cash on: ‘If Chelsea get the money that they need, I’d like them to get Jude Bellingham and Erling Haaland.

‘They’re both going to be super, super expensive. It just depends on what they can get for Lukaku. If he goes, you’re not going to get anywhere near the £97.5m they paid for him from Inter Milan.

‘It would be an extremely tough deal to do. If you’re talking about just strikers however, then I’d like Haaland to come in to replace any outgoing forwards.’

With 80 goals in 84 games for Dortmund, 21-year-old Haaland is perhaps the most wanted player in world football right now and would surely solve Chelsea’s striker issues.

But while the Norwegian has a reported release clause of £63m, the Blues will face fierce competition for his signature, with Manchester City, Real Madrid and Barcelona currently the frontrunners in the race to sign Haaland.

Bellingham may only be 18-years-old, but he has already established himself as one of the best young midfielders in the world and is a regular in Gareth Southgate’s England team, but like Haaland is in strong demand with City, Manchester United and Liverpool among the clubs linked to him.
