beat Scotland 3-1 in Glasgow on Wednesday night, but that didn’t stop Graeme Souness describing their goalkeeper Georgiy Bushchan as ‘an absolute pudding’ after a sketchy performance.
It was a pretty comfortable victory for the visiting side, who set up a final play-off against Wales in Cardiff on Sunday, with the winner earning their place at the Qatar .
Scotland got back into the game after conceding the first two goals of the game as Callum McGregor somehow scored despite a tame shot looked easy to deal with for Bushchan.
However, the Ukrainian stopper mishandled and fumbled the ball over his own line to give the Scots hope, although they couldn’t take advantage.
It wasn’t the only dodgy moment for the goalkeeper over the match and Souness had a harsh assessment of him, telling Sky Sports: ‘Their goalkeeper is an absolute pudding, he doesn’t look like he’s up for playing at this kind of level.’
The Liverpool legend was critical of Scotland for not targeting Bushchan more, testing him with in-swinging crosses, long balls into the box and more shots.
‘You’ve got to put their most vulnerable part of their team under pressure and that was the goalkeeper,’ he said.
‘You saw that from the way he was caught and blocked my McGregor, it nearly went in. He came and tried to catch and couple of things and spilled them.
‘Goalkeepers are players in an XI that have to be at it all the time, they have to play lots of games to get up to speed.
‘He looked as rusty as anything tonight and we didn’t really try and exploit that.’
