says there is a string of reasons why he made seven changes to his team to face Wolves on Saturday, but most of all he was just picking a team to win the game.

Plenty of big names miss out at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, with Thiago Silva left out comppletely, while Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Raheem Sterling and Reece James all have to make do with a place on the bench.

The likes of Conor Gallagher, , Christian Pulisic and all get places in the starting XI.

Potter says it is partly due to players needing rests, injuries and other reasons, but he was crucially just focussing on picking the right team for Wolves.

‘A bit of the schedule, individuals carrying certain things, recovery times and lots of other factors. But most importantly, we have tried to select a team that can win the match,’ he said.

‘I want to see a similar personality to the other night. I thought that was good. We need to attack and defend in a good and balanced way. We’re playing against a team with a lot of attacking players so it will be an interesting game.’

Sky Sports pundit Clinton Morrison is not sure Potter has made the right choices for the important clash with Wolves, saying he should have kept his big names in the starting XI.

‘You can’t leave out the likes of Reece James, Sterling and Aubameyang,’ the former Republic of Ireland striker told Sky Sports.

‘James has been outstanding, so has Sterling. Aubameyang gets his first goal in the Premier League last week against Crystal Palace, you’re on a high as a centre forward you can’t make those changes.

‘The bread and butter is the Premier League and Chelsea need to make up points so I’m surprised at those changes, but he better get a result because people will start complaining.’
