Daniel Sturridge believes could be given the chance to revive his career under their new manager.

Lukaku re-joined Inter Milan on loan last summer just a year on from his £97million move to Stamford Bridge having struggled upon his return to the Premier League.

The Blues themselves have struggled for goals this season with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who joined the club in the summer, a forgotten figure with their top scorer this term with nine.

Their shortcomings in front of goal were laid bare on Tuesday night

Signing a new centre forward is likely to be a priority for the club this summer with Victor Osimhen among the names said to be under consideration in west London.

Chelsea are looking for their third manager of the season after parting ways with Graham Potter on Sunday

Luis Enrique and Mauricio Pochettino are also among the candidates under consideration but former Blues striker Sturridge believes Lukaku could be handed one last opportunity to solve Chelsea’s problems up front next season.

‘It depends on the manager,’ Sturridge told Sky Sports, discussing the possibility of Lukaku offering a solution.

‘The new manager could come in and can build a team around him and I think that is probably what Lukaku needs.

‘We will see, hopefully whoever comes in will fancy him and give him an opportunity because he didn’t really get a good chance to come out and prove himself once again at Chelsea, it was a very short period of time.

‘So if he does come back and has a very good preseason I am sure the manager will know this guy is a goal scorer.

‘Maybe there are things that teams will want him to do more of, but in regards of scoring goals Lukaku does that, that is what he is known for.’

A goalless draw for Chelsea leaves them in 11th place in the Premier League table.
