boss ten Hag is one of the leading contenders to become the new permanent United manager having been interviewed by the Premier League club last week.
His midfielder Gravenberch could also be on the move this summer. According to T, the 19-year-old is one potential signing United have scouted with midfield an area the club are desperate to strengthen in the coming months.
Gravenberch however is said to favour a move to Bayern Munich with reports suggesting the Netherlands international is very close to agreeing personal terms with the German champions.
While ten Hag has not ruled out the possibility of both him and Gravenberch remaining at Ajax beyond the current season, he has backed his player to rise to the new challenge.
Asked if Germany would be a good move for the midfielder, ten Hag told : ‘Definitely! It would certainly be a tough job for him because there is a lot of competition at Bayern.
‘But he’s also the kind of guy who needs challenges. He can certainly adapt to such a high level of quality as at Bayern.
‘You saw that in the Champions League too, because that’s where he always played his best games. We still have hope that he will stay with us for a season.’
Explaining where Gravenberch excels, he added: ‘Ryan is a very young player, but he has already gained a lot of experience.
‘He has already played over 100 games in the Eredivisie, has played in the Champions League and has been called up for the national team.
‘Despite his young age, he has already experienced a lot and, above all, won titles. He’s very important for our team because he’s a box-to-box player.
‘He accelerates out of the positional play, does good dribbling, has enormous passing accuracy and takes part in the build-up of the game.
‘Due to his athleticism and physique, he is also strong in the transition game and can also win the balls. He’s come a long way, but can still learn a lot.’
Ten Hag meanwhile described United as a ‘great club’ but insisted his full focus remains on Ajax.
‘My focus is currently only on Ajax. But in football you never know. I don’t want to rule anything out. I’m currently employed here at Ajax to perform.’
