The announcement of Guardiola’s arrival in English football was actually made in February of that year when he was still in charge of German giants Bayern Munich.
An initial three-year contract was agreed between manager and club, with Guardiola assuming his role at the start of the 2016/17 season.

Guardiola has a bursting trophy cabinet from his time in Manchester so far, with the Catalan having amassed 11 titles.
Having gone trophy-less during his first season in charge, Guardiola picked up his first piece of silverware with the League Cup in 2017/18.
The Premier League title also followed that season, with City becoming the first team to collect 100 points in a single campaign courtesy of an incredible 32 wins from 38 matches.
Since then, City have gone on to win three further league titles, which included finishing one point ahead of Liverpool in both 2018/19 and 2021/22.

Guardiola signed a a two-year contract extension in November 2022, which was due to run out at the end of the current season.
