The surname, however, is anything but simple.

The best way to go about pronouncing it is to tackle it as ‘Sob-oss-lie’.

Below is Hungarian sports reporter Haraszti Adam explaining it in an interview from 2020 when Szoboszlai was playing for Salzburg.

Aron Aranyossy, a Hungarian journalist and Liverpool fan, has shed further light on how to pronounce Szoboszlai’s name in an .

Aranyossy explained: ‘Forget about the Z in his name because the “sz” is pronounced like an ’s’ in Hungarian.’

Liverpool fans will likely have flashbacks to when the club signed Kostas Tsimikas from Olympiacos in 2020, with the Greek fullback’s name proving an initial challenge to supporters before it gradually became a part of the Anfield lexicon.
