How many players will be named in the squad?
Southgate will name 26 players in his final squad selection, which has been increased from the usual cap of 23.
This is due to concerns over player welfare given the World Cup is taking place in the middle of a grueling season which has seen domestic fixture lists condensed to accommodate the tournament.
As per FIFA regulations, three goalkeepers must be named in the squad and every member of the team will be able to be named in the matchday squad.
When is the deadline to submit the squad?
Each team competing in Qatar must submit their final 26-man squads to FIFA by Monday, November 14.
However, managers will be able to change their squads up to 24 before their first match if a player is injured or ill.
This means that, in effect, Southgate has a hard deadline of Sunday, November 20 to absolutely finalise the squad, with England’s opening game of the World Cup a day later.
