Michael Owen has defended Liverpool striker after his goal against Rangers, following criticism of the forward.
spent huge money on bringing Nunez to Anfield this summer in a deal initially worth £64m which could rise to a club-record £85m in add-ons.
Some had tipped Nunez to succeed at Liverpool like Erling Haaland at Manchester City – who also moved to England this summer – .
But while Haaland has scored 20 goals in 13 games, Nunez has been notably less prolific, registering four goals across 10 matches.
The 23-year-old Uruguay international since moving to England and sometimes cannot understand what Klopp is saying.
But following Liverpool’s 7-1 victory at Rangers, which saw Nunez register goals in back-to-back games after he also netted in the 3-2 defeat to Arsenal, former Reds striker Owen defended the youngster and feels he’s done nothing wrong.
Owen told BT Sport: ‘A lot of people are writing him off or saying, ‘Ooh, I’m not sure about Liverpool’s new signing’.
‘I don’t think he’s done anything wrong for Liverpool so far, he scored against Arsenal, he played fine against Rangers – a lot of chances.
‘We talk about time, [Roberto] Firmino’s had plenty, cool in front of goal. He scored against Arsenal, we know all about him, just a touch of class.’
Nunez attracted further criticism earlier this season when he was sent off against Crystal Palace on his home debut, headbutting Joachim Andersen, which saw him handed a three-game suspension.
While Liverpool have won three of their four Champions League games so far this season, they have hugely struggled in the Premier League and are 10th in the table.
