legend feels his old club have renewed ‘impetus’ in the top-four race after stunning at Stamford Bridge but is still favouring Tottenham to finish fourth.
The Gunners went to the home of the European champions and upset the odds to secure a thrilling 4-2 victory in an open and entertaining clash between the two rivals.
An under-hit back pass gifted Eddie Nketiah the opening goal but Chelsea responded immediately through a deflected effort from Timo Werner.
A stunning team counter-attack saw Emile Smith Rowe finish beautifully to retake the lead, but again the home side responded within minutes, this time through Cesar Azpilicueta.
But Chelsea’s shambolic defending gifted Nketiah his second goal of the night shortly after half-time and Bukayo Saka added some gloss to the scoreline late on from the penalty spot.
The result ends Arsenal’s three-game losing streak and means they are now back level on points with Tottenham with six games left to play.
Mikel Arteta’s side still have some very tough games left though – hosting Manchester United and facing away trips to Tottenham, West Ham and a resurgent Newcastle – while Spurs face two of the bottom three but also title-chasing Liverpool.
Wright feels Tottenham’s fixtures are just a little bit easier and for that reason still feels they are the team best placed to finish fourth, but he was massively encouraged by Arsenal’s result against Chelsea and is hoping they can use it as a springboard.
Speaking to Premier League Productions, Wright said of the top-four battle: ‘You look at Spurs’ run-in and you’d probably fancy that.
‘But you look at Arsenal today and what should give them a lot of impetus to keep going forward, especially with a Man United team that you don’t mind playing.
‘But what they did today and when they’re able to take those half chances and keep building on it and keep going, even when they do get pegged back, [means they can] go into any of those games believing that they can win them.
‘You have to, because at this stage of the season, if you don’t then you probably won’t.
‘Nobody fancied Arsenal to beat Chelsea tonight and they went there and beat them so they should take a lot from that.’
