The north London side conclude their 2022-23 campaign with games against Newcastle United, Brighton, Nottingham Forest and Wolves and club legend Wright hopes to see Jorginho involved heavily.

The Italian midfielder has largely impressed since his and was one of Arsenal’s best players against Chelsea on Wednesday evening.

‘We have recruited well and the guys that have come in have played well and scored goals,’ Wright said on his .

‘Martin Odegaard has 14 Premier League goals from midfield, that’s the standard he’s set and he’s got to get love for that.

‘But can I also say something about Jorginho? I really would like to see Jorginho play in the team regularly now.

‘I’m sorry, but the way he controls the game for us, him and [Oleksandr] Zinchenko in there as well, but then once it gets to [Martin] Odegaard, the man is like an artist, [it’s] beautiful.’

Arsenal resume their Premier League title challenge on Sunday with a trip to St James’ Park to face in-form Newcastle United.

While Manchester City are now strong favourites to clinch the title, Etihad boss Guardiola says he knows Arsenal will ‘not give up’ as they bid to win the Premier League for the first time since 2004.

‘After Arsenal [last week] when everybody said it’s over, I said it was not over in my press conference,’ said Guardiola, referencing his side’s 4-1 win against the Gunners.

‘Yesterday Arsenal proved it. They will not give up. I know quite well [Arsenal manager] Mikel [Arteta], how competitive he is and I know a few players. Arsenal is one of the historical teams and they will be there. I said that to the players.’

Arsenal captain Odegaard echoed that sentiment after the Chelsea win, telling reporters: ‘Everyone was so hurt after the defeat, we used the anger and the disappointment to get back into this game.

‘You can lose games but the way we lost, we didn’t play our game and weren’t ourselves, that was the most painful thing, and we wanted to show a different side and we definitely did.

‘We have to fight and keep going. We believe and will fight until the end.’
