says the Premier League is ‘wide open’ this season and has named the five teams he believes can win the title.

Potential title contenders , and all kick-started their campaigns with victories – beating Everton, Crystal Palace and Southampton respectively – while defending champions begin their title defence on Sunday against West Ham.

Last season’s runners-up but came from behind twice to at least avoid defeat against the newly-promoted west Londoners.

Redknapp has backed Jurgen Klopp’s side to win the Premier League this season but says four other teams – Manchester City, Chelsea, Tottenham and Arsenal – should also be viewed as title contenders.

The former Premier League boss is less optimistic about Manchester United’s chances, insisting Erik ten Hag still needs ‘three or four’ new signings to mount a title challenge.

‘I’ve just got a feeling it will be Liverpool this year,’ Redknapp said on . ‘It was so close last season, it came down to one point.

‘I think Liverpool could edge it. They are two fantastic teams and even though Real Madrid won the Champions League, I still believe Man City and Liverpool are the two best teams in the world.

‘There’s nothing between them really but I just favour Liverpool.’

Asked if any other teams could be in the mix, Redknapp added: ‘I think Spurs look strong. They’re going to get a lot closer this year.

‘I fancy Tottenham to finish third, and then it’s Chelsea, Arsenal. But I think any of that top five could win [the Premier League].

‘I’m waiting to see who Chelsea bring in, that’s really going to be the key for them. They have made a couple of signings, there’s two or three more top players that keep getting mentioned with Chelsea.

‘If they get their men, I think they are going to be very good again this year, so it’s going to be a great league, I really do think it’s wide open this year.

‘Looking at Manchester United, they are still three or four players away from really challenging.’

Redknapp also gave his verdict on Bournemouth’s chances of avoiding relegation back to the Championship.

The 75-year-old made more than 100 appearances for Bournemouth in the 1970s before taking charge of the club for almost a decade at the start of his managerial career.

‘Hopefully we can survive,’ Redknapp said. ‘They did great last year getting up but Scott [Parker] has got it all on this year to keep them in the division, for sure.

‘We bought one or two players… but we haven’t spent a lot and you see Nottingham Forest are having a real go, full credit to them.

‘Bournemouth have got every chance of staying up, but I do think it’s going to be a tough one.

‘If Scott can keep Bournemouth up, he won’t have many better achievements in his career over how ever many years he is in management. He’s got it all on to do it this year, for sure.’
