Jamie Carragher reckons that as many as nine bosses could be candidates for manager of the season, although didn’t include ’s on that list.
The Liverpool legend was thoroughly impressed as he watched Brighton thrash Arsenal 3-0 at the Emirates on Sunday afternoon, a win masterminded by Roberto De Zerbi.
The Italian has been excellent since taking over from earlier in the campaign and Carragher reckons he is a contender for an end-of-season award.
However, he also thinks that there are eight more contenders, ranging from Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola to the likes of Julen Lopetegui at Wolves.
Carragher tweeted: ‘What a performance from Brighton yet again today, their manager could be manager of the season. Has there ever been so many candidates for that award?!!’
He then listed: Pep Guardiola, Mikel Arteta, Eddie Howe, Roberto De Zerbi, Unai Emery, Thomas Frank, Gary O’Neil, Marco Silva and Julen Lopetegui.
De Zerbi took a big step closer to securing Brighton’s first ever European campaign with the win over Arsenal in north London, climbing to sixth in the table with the three points.
He knows the job is not done yet, though, and said after downing the Gunners: ‘I’m really pleased with the performance but the season is not finished for us.
‘The 58 points on the table we have are not enough, we are fighting for a big, big target so we have to win more games.’
