attacking midfielder Jesse Lingard says he and his teammates are approaching their upcoming match against with a ‘nothing to lose’ mentality.
The Red Devils face off against the Gunners at the Emirates on Saturday in what could be a crucial game in deciding who qualifies for next season’s .
Arsenal and United are currently level on points and just three points behind fourth placed Tottenham, albeit each club has played a different number of games.
However, both sides go into the match in poor form, with Arsenal having lost their last three games in a row, while United are still reeling from being thrashed 4-0 by Liverpool on Tuesday night.
But Lingard says that while losing to the Reds was ‘horrible’, his side are already looking ahead to the Gunners game with a positive attitude.
‘We’ve got a big game coming up. We’ve got to regroup fast this week, it’s a big three points on Saturday,’ the 29-year-old told .
‘It’s another free hit and we’ll go there with the mindset of winning, staying on the front foot, being intense, doing the basics and having that energy to go and win the game.
‘We need to work hard first before you can start playing. Win your individual battles and then you’ll win the game hopefully.
‘We’ll work hard throughout this week. However, we train reflects how we play, so we can increase the energy and intensity in training to help that.’
Lingard has found game time hard to come by in recent years and with his contract up at the end of the season there is speculation that he will leave Old Trafford in the summer, with West Ham, where he previously had a successful loan spell, a possible destination.
But for now, the England international says he will do whatever it takes to help his boyhood club: ‘Every time I step on the pitch, every time I put a United shirt on, I want to give 110 per cent. Bring energy to the team, do the pressing.
‘For me, I just want to play football. It was great to play against Norwich, I enjoyed it. I was getting into the rhythm of the game but obviously got brought off.
‘For this game [against Liverppol], I was expecting to start again but then Paul [Pogba] got injured and I came on early enough to play most of the game anyway. I’m always ready, I’m always confident to play.’
