Jordan Henderson has accepted a proposal from Saudi Arabian side Al Ettifaq, with Liverpool now discussing a transfer fee for the midfielder.

The Saudi Pro League club managed by Reds legend Steven Gerrard is offering the star a deal thought to be worth an eye-watering £700,000-a-week.

The offer will see him roughly quadruple his Liverpool salary, which sees him earn just under £200,000-a-week, while he would also expect to receive a signing on bonus.

The Liverpool captain still has two years left to run on his contract at Anfield so the Reds will expect a fee for him, thought to be in the region of £10m.

Henderson reportedly spoke with Jurgen Klopp on Thursday and the manager gave him his blessing to leave.

The 33-year-old midfielder has been at Liverpool since 2011 when he arrived from Sunderland and has gone on to make 492 appearances for the club.

He has won the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup and League Cup in that time, while reaching the European Championship final with England.

Henderson will rejoin his former Liverpool teammate at Al-Ettifaq as the pair played together before Gerrard left Merseyside in 2015.

On being announced as Al-Ettifaq boss last week, Gerrard said: ‘I think there were a lot of reasons for me wanting to join the football club and I think the club has a lot of good people that represent the club from the board down.

‘When I went to Saudi I got a real family feeling. It made me actually feel welcomed. There are three things I always consider in order – it needs to be right for my family first and foremost. We have to be excited and motivated by the challenge.

‘Secondly I think the football project needs to be ambitious, it needs to be for the right reasons in terms of the challenge and the remit and then of course you need to feel secure with the contract, but this comes at the very end.

‘So it was a combination of reasons. I am extremely excited, I am happy and I can’t wait to start. I can’t wait to meet all the supporters and all the players. But the people I have met so far who represent Ettifaq have been absolutely outstanding and I think we share a lot of things in common.’
