RB Leipzig star Josko Gvardiol has refused to rule out a move to Chelsea in the January transfer window after the Blues failed with a late move for the defender last summer.

Chelsea submitted an eye-watering £77.4m bid for Gvardiol in the dying days of the summer transfer window, with the club scrambling to make signings.

It came as a move for Wesley Fofana was still up in the air and though Chelsea managed to pull off a deal for the Frenchman, wants to strengthen the club’s defence.

The 20-year-old is adept at left-back and centre-back, which would be valuable for Potter as he wants his side to be flexible enough to play with a back three.

Leipzig value Gvardiol at around £85m and though Chelsea came close to that figure, they decided to keep the Croatian because they hadn’t planned on selling him at this stage of his career.

Indeed, Leipzig CEO Oliver Mintzlaff said recently: ‘Josko still has a contract with us until 2026. We assume that he will not only play with us this season, but also next season as well.’

But the defender has suggested that he will reconsider his future in January, provided Chelsea reignite their interest.

I’m happy at Leipzig, I still have a lot to learn and need to work on myself.

‘I have people who deal with it, I didn’t think about a transfer. We’ll see what happens in the winter.

‘I feel great, I’m healthy. I was a little behind at the beginning of the season due to rehabilitation.

‘Now I’m waiting for the opportunity and minutes and I’m trying to use them in the best possible way.’
