has opened up on his new life at and has revealed he feels like a ‘gladiator’ playing for the club in their ‘coliseum’ stadium.
The 20 year-old has enjoyed an incredible first six months in the Spanish capital, for Los Blancos since .
Bellingham’s form has , but the Three Lions star has seemingly taken most of it in his stride – even if he can’t quite get his head around the size of the club at times.
‘You know Real Madrid is the biggest club in the world but when you see it up close, like with the renovation works at the Bernabéu, it’s just unbelievable,’ Bellingham told .
‘It’s like playing at the Colosseum, you feel like a gladiator. It’s really special. You never imagine how big this club is.
‘It’s impossible to go out and not be recognised. Sometimes that’s great, others not so much. This club is on another level.’
Despite his confident swagger on the pitch, the former Birmingham City player admitted to feeling the nerves during his official unveiling last June.
Bellingham was given the traditional Real Madrid welcome, posing for pictures with club president Florentino Pérez alongside his and .
Bellingham said of the unveiling: ‘It was an unforgettable day. It was surreal, just an unbelievable experience and one of the best days of my life.
‘I didn’t want to get too carried away, I’m more comfortable when I’m playing football, but it was a great day for my family and friends.
‘So happy. Look at the selfie. The number 5 is a big number at this club. It was a beautiful day and I feel really proud about how it all went. I was so nervous.
‘When it was my turn to talk and the president called me up to the stand, I was really nervous. I didn’t know what I was going to say, I hadn’t prepared anything. I just said whatever came into my head. It went well but I was really nervous.’
In spite of the pressure and attention which inevitably comes with playing for arguably the biggest team on the planet, Bellingham insists he remains a normal bloke at heart.
‘I’m the same guy in interviews, at home or with my friends. I like to joke around and laugh, I love having a good time. I have an amazing opportunity to do what I love the most,’ Bellingham added.
‘There aren’t many people in the world who can say that and I appreciate all I’m achieving. I laugh with my teammates every day, but when it’s time to be serious, I change into a completely different person.
‘When I’m in the dressing room I’m focused on being a professional and I enjoy my teammates’ company.’
