is seriously excited about ‘fantastic prospect’ Fabio Carvalho and is ready to try him out in a number of positions for Liverpool in his first season with the club.
The 19-year-old arrived from Fulham this summer for a fee of up to £7.7m after a superb breakthrough season in the Championship, scoring 10 league goals as the Cottagers were promoted.
Klopp was thoroughly impressed with the Portuguese-born talent, hence why he has brought him to Anfield, and praised the Fulham manager for the style of play he managed to implement in the Championship.
‘Fabio, wow, what a season he played with Fulham,’ Klopp told Liverpool’s official website. ‘Getting promoted, football-playing, properly football-playing, is not easy.
‘So, obviously did an incredible job there, but a big part of that was absolutely Fabio. And Harry Wilson obviously, our former (player), and Neco (Williams) of course.’
Klopp is a fan of Carvalho’s versatility, saying Carvalho is able to play in a number of places in Liverpool’s system, which will be a short-term plan, while he discovers a position of his own in the long-term.
‘When we watched him it was a pure joy to watch him, absolutely. He can play so many different positions for us, the way we play,’ Klopp continued on his new signing.
‘At the minute he’s not really set on one position — it’s the wing, it’s the eight, it’s the 10, it’s the false nine if he grows a few more muscles.
‘It’s a short-term and a long-term project; he can start tomorrow and he needs to adapt, you can see that a little bit, but when he has the ball that’s proper quality. I’m over the moon that he’s here. Fantastic prospect.’
