defender Matthijs de Ligt has heaped praise on ‘fantastic’ transfer target Jurrien Timber.
Both Timber and De Ligt have been following the appointment of Erik ten Hag as manager.
Ten Hag enjoyed working with the defenders at and is considering bringing the Dutch stars to United in his first transfer window in charge.
While the links with De Ligt appear speculative, Manchester United believe they have a chance to sign Timber, who made 43 appearances under Ten Hag last season.
The 20-year-old has developed into a key member of Ajax’s squad over the past two seasons and could play as a central defender or right back for United.
De Ligt was asked about his Netherlands team-mate on Monday and said: ‘Jurrien Timber is really good. He has done fantastic and he’s also been fantastic for Ajax this season, I can only be happy for him.’
Timber helped Netherlands thump Belgium 4-1 in the Nations League on Friday in a game in which De Ligt started from the bench.
Asked about the competition with Timber, De Ligt added: ‘That’s football, the manager decides who plays.’
Over the weekend, former Manchester United star and said his team-mate was ‘wise enough to make his own choices’.
‘I don’t need to explain what kind of talent and player he is,’ Blind said. ‘How important he is to us.
‘What he shows from the start though is unbelievable. Of course, as a teammate, I hope he stays for another year. I cannot influence that. I can only say that Ajax must do its best to keep him.’
