Kevin Phillips believes Aaron Wan-Bissaka is not good enough to play for and has tipped the right-back to leave the club this summer.

Wan-Bissaka, 24, has fallen out-of-favour at Old Trafford this term after a drop-off in performance.

The former man sat out United’s defeat at on Saturday having lost his starting place to Diogo Dalot in recent matches, with reports suggesting interim manager Ralf Rangick does not rate the defender.

Phillips, the former striker, says Wan-Bissaka does not possess the quality to play for United and thinks the Englishman may be sold by incoming manager Erik ten Hag at the end of the season.

Speaking to , he said: ‘It’s been really tough for him in the past couple of seasons. He’s got lots of important qualities – but is he really up there at that Man United level?

‘With the new manager coming in, a new chapter for them – I don’t think he’s a player who can really move with them as they go to the next level.

‘I haven’t seen enough from him to suggest that he’s ready to become one of the great Man United right-backs.

‘I wouldn’t be surprised if he was a player who gets moved on this summer in order to free up a wage to do business in the transfer window.’

Since being bought by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for £50 million in 2019, Wan-Bissaka has not progressed at United as hoped.

Despite playing 89 Premier League matches for the Red Devils and being consistently ranked among the highest for tackles in the Premier League, he has been often criticised for his attacking shortcomings.

This season, Wan-Bissaka has been part of a defence which has conceded 51 league goals, the highest amount in the top eight.

Meanwhile, United are set to finish without a Champions League place and are nearly five years without a trophy.

In an interview with last year, Wan-Bissaka acknowledged the need to improve on the offensive side of his game.

He said: ‘That’s why I came to this club. This club is capable of helping me with that. I want to become a better player every year.

‘I don’t really focus on statistics at the time, but at the end of the season I look back and see if it’s better than the previous season, and the season before that.’
