McKenna was retained by after the German was named interim boss at Old Trafford last year having previously worked with and his predecessor .

But the 35-year-old moved on after just three games, replacing Paul Cook as the new Ipswich manager.

McKenna has thrived in his first management job in senior football, winning 10 and losing just two of his 17 games at the helm so far.

He has continued to put his own stamp on the club by bringing in a new member of staff from United in Sam Williams.

Williams worked as a first-team recruitment analyst at United having also worked as an academy scout.

His move to Portman Road sees him take up a new role as head of recruitment.

Williams told the official Ipswich website: ‘Mark Ashton [Ipswich CEO] really sold the club and it’s a really exciting time to be joining.

‘It’s been a privilege to work for Manchester United and I’ve worked with fantastic people, but this was an opportunity I just couldn’t turn down.

‘There’s a lot of work to be done between now and the end of the transfer window. I’m looking forward to the challenge and working together closely with Kieran, Martyn [Pert] and Gary [Probert].

‘We’re going to implement a very thorough and methodical process which will help provide the best available players to help us achieve our aims and ambitions, which is getting the club back up the leagues.’
