Barcelona wonderkid Lamine Yamal has pulled out of ’s squad for their upcoming European Championships qualifiers, amid fears he could switch allegiances to .
The 16-year-old became the youngest scorer in La Liga history with his goal against Granada last weekend.
The teenager has become a first team regular for Barcelona this season, earning him comparisons with .
Yamal already has two caps for Spain and he scored in a 7-1 win against Georgia in September.
He became the youngest debutant to play for Spain, beating the record held by team-mate Gavi.
However, Yamal needs to play three times for Spain to commit his future to the nation and he’s received an offer from Morocco.
Yamal qualifies for the north African country due to his father’s background, and they are promising to make him a key figure of the side.
Morocco reached the World Cup semi-finals in Qatar and they’re due to hold the Africa Cup of Nations in 2025.
Spain had therefore been desperate for Yamal to feature in games against Scotland and Norway.
However, the teenager has pulled out of the squad with a hip flexor problem.
Though there’s no suggestion that Yamal’s removal is to do with any doubt in his mind as to committing for Spain, it is a worry for the nation.
