Chelsea, who could now finish as low as 14th in the table if results go against them on the final day, are desperate for the season to end and begin the rebuilding process that is set to be orchestrated by Mauricio Pochettino.
The former Spurs boss is set to be appointed as Graham Potter’s permanent successo, and is understood to want to offer Colwill a chance to impress at his parent club.
Chelsea invested over £100million on central defensive reinforcements last summer, but neither Kalidou Koulibaly or Wesley Fofana have justified their fees or reputations.
Colwill, meanwhile, has played a key part in Brighton’s outstanding campaign while on loan at the south coast club who confirmed Europa League qualification with a draw against champions Manchester City on Wednesday.
The England Under-21 international, out celebrating that achievement last night was clearly in high spirits, but his reaction to a question posed by a fan on Twitter is unlikely to go down well with Chelsea supporters or his employers.
Colwill’s outstanding recent displays have seen him linked with moves to Tottenham and City given Chelsea’s need to trim their bloated squad.
Speaking about his future earlier this week, Colwill told The Athletic: ‘Brighton have done a lot for me. They put their trust in me when others didn’t and I’m a person that loves to repay that. We’ll see.
‘I don’t know what is going to happen (at Chelsea). I’m still here until the end of the season.
‘I just focus on that, then I’ve got the Euros (Under-21 European Championship with England) in the summer. After that, we’ll see what happens and go from there.’
