Levi Colwill will wait to see who ’s next manager will be before making a decision over his future at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea are on the hunt for their latest head coach following the sacking of who lasted less than seven months in the job after replacing .
Interim boss is in the running, while Julian Nagelsmann and Luis Enrique remain the firm favourites.
Whoever ends up taking the reins will have to start with trimming down the Blues’ bloated squad which has become overstuffed with stars following Todd Boehly’s lavish spending spree this season.
One player that the club are keen to hold onto however is Colwill, following the defender’s impressive performances on loan at Brighton.
The 20-year-old has made 17 appearances for Roberto De Zerbi’s side so far, helping the Seagulls to seventh in the Premier League table and the semi-finals of the FA Cup where they’ll face Manchester United on Sunday.
Colwill was tipped to play for Chelsea this season with the team lacking a left-sided centre-back after losing Antonio Rudiger last summer, but instead he was loaned out and the Blues signed Marc Cucurella, Kalidou Koulibaly and Benoit Badiashile to cover that position.
And though the former two have struggled for form, Colwill will face a lot of competition for a place in the first-team when he returns from his loan.
With just two years left on his contract, Chelsea want to tie their starlet down to a new long-term deal, but, according to , Colwill, who is yet to make a senior appearance for the club, is in no rush and wants to see who will be in the dugout next season before making a choice.
Should he choose to leave he will not be short of options, as the report claims that Brighton are keen on signing him permanently, but more interestingly ‘big-six’ rivals Liverpool and Manchester City are also keeping tabs on the England U21 international.
It would not be the first time that Chelsea have lost a promising centre-back prematurely, with Fikayo Tomori and Marc Guehi leaving for AC Milan and Crystal Palace in recent seasons, two huge transfer blunders in hindsight.
In the meantime, Lampard will be hoping his side can overturn a two-goal deficit when they host Real Madrid in the Champions League on Tuesday night.
Elsewhere, Colwill and Brighton will be preparing for the aforementioned clash against United where they’ll be aiming to reach only their second ever FA Cup final, with their first coming back in 1983.
