’s Inter Miami and ’s Al-Nassr are due to meet in a friendly in February, renewing the epic rivalry between the two superstars.
It is quite a long way from their huge clashes as Barcelona and players, but as they near the end of their immense careers, they will meet in a friendly between American and Saudi Arabian sides.
Inter Miami and Al-Nassr will be playing in the Riyadh Season Cup along with Al-Hilal, with the three games running from 29 January – 8 February.
The eye-catching match between Messi and Ronaldo’s teams will be on 1 February in Saudi Arabia.
Inter Miami CF Chief Business Officer, Xavier Asensi, said: ‘This is another major opportunity to create lasting relationships with passionate fans. We are excited to connect with new supporters in Saudi Arabia, and also hope people all over the world will be tuning in to see a pair of dream matches like these.’
Chris Henderson, the MLS side’s Chief Soccer Officer and Sporting Director added: ‘These matches will offer important tests for our team, which will benefit us as we approach the new season.
‘We’re excited for our group to get the chance to go up against teams with as much quality as Al-Hilal and Al Nassr.’
David Beckham’s club were happy to remind Ronaldo that their man has had the better of their meetings over the years as well.
As part of the announcement of the friendly tournament, Inter Miami posted: ‘Messi and Ronaldo have faced each other 35 times in their careers, with Messi claiming 16 wins to 10 by Ronaldo, and nine draws between them. In those matches, Messi has tallied 21 goals and 12 assists, while Ronaldo has registered 20 goals and one assist.’
