Liverpool aware of ‘ongoing situation’ involving Luis Diaz’s parents in Colombia

Liverpool say they are ‘aware’ of an ‘ongoing situation’ in Colombia after Luis Diaz’s parents were kidnapped in his homeland.

The striker’s parents were taken hostage on Saturday night near to Barrancas.

Local reports claimed Diaz’s parents were taken by ‘assailants on motorcycles’.

Diaz’s mother, was found overnight, with Colombian president Gustovo Petro confirming the news on Twitter.

However, as of Sunday morning, Diaz’s father was still missing.

Liverpool take on Nottingham Forest at Anfield at 2pm on Sunday afternoon, with Diaz unlikely to participate.

The club confirmed on Sunday morning that they were ‘aware’ of the situation involving Diaz’s parents, and that the forward’s welfare was their primary concern.

‘Liverpool Club can confirm it is aware of an ongoing situation involving the family of Luis Diaz in Colombia,’ a statement read.

‘It is our fervent hope that the matter is resolved safely and at the earliest possible opportunity.

‘In the meantime, the player’s welfare will continue to be our immediate priority.’
