says that new Liverpool signing Arthur Melo will not feature in Saturday’s Merseyside derby.
Arthur joined Liverpool on loan from on deadline day but the Brazilian international does not have international clearance to play yet, but he could make his debut next week in the game at Napoli.
The Reds boss also revealed that fellow midfielder Jordan Henderson will also miss the clash against , further depleting his injury prone squad.
Henderson was subbed off during the win over Newcastle in midweek with a hamstring issue and it remains to be seen when the club captain will return.
‘Nothing yet, we are still waiting for the result, to be honest,’ Klopp replied when asked for an update on the 32-year-old.
‘It was now only 12:30 or so; I asked before I came here and [we] didn’t get a result yet. He is definitely out, he is injured, but the extent I don’t know.’
The motivation behind Arthur’s signing was fuelled by Liverpool’s midfield injury crisis with nearly all of players in that position in the treatment room and not set to return for some time.
‘For Naby Keita it’s a muscle injury, Ox [Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain] is a muscle injury also and they will be out for a while,’ Klopp added in his pre-match press conference.
‘Thiago [Alcantara] is the closest from all [of them]. I think the start of the week, next week, he will be in team training.’
This puts Klopp’s experienced midfield options for the trip to Goodison Park down to just Fabinho and James Milner, though young trio Harvey Elliott, Fabio Carvalho and Curtis Jones are available.
On the upside, the manager did reveal that Diogo Jota is back in contention having been on the side lines all summer after picking up a thigh injury in pre-season.
Also available again is summer signing Darwin Nunez who returns after serving his three-match ban for headbutting Joachim Andersen in the 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace.
‘Diogo probably will be in as well [as Nunez], he trained yesterday with the team first time. He will train today.
‘I have to make a decision; does it make sense that we involve him already or not? But if, it is the first time we have five attackers – sounds like Christmas!’
