Liverpool have confirmed the signing of midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai from RB Leipzig.
The Reds moved to activate the 22-year-old’s £60million release clause on Friday after learning of his desire to move to Anfield.
who has now signed a long-term deal on Merseyside.
Szoboszlai has developed into one of the Bundesliga’s best young talents in recent years, joining from Red Bull Salzburg in 2021. He made 48 appearances during the 2022-23 season, scoring 10 goals and laying on 13 assists.
The Hungarian said on his arrival at Anfield: ‘It’s really, really good. I enjoyed the last [few] days and I’m looking forward to knowing everybody better.
‘The last three or four days went really long; it was not that easy. But at the end I’m here, I’m happy and I can’t wait to get started.
‘[A] really historic club, really good players, good coach, everything is good. For me it was perfect to make the next step in a club like this. The fans, the stadium, everything is really good.’
In a message to the Liverpool fans, he added: ‘I can’t wait to see you in the stadium and I’m going to do everything that is possible from my side.’
Szoboszlai becomes Liverpool’s second signing of the summer following the arrival of Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton.
Jurgen Klopp has been eager to rebuild his midfield following last season’s fifth place finish with James Milner, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain all leaving the club.
F where he will hope to help fill the void left by Szoboszlai’s departure.
Liverpool remain in the hunt for one more midfield addition with Nice starlet Khephren Thuram, Borussia Monchengladbach’s Manu Kone and Ryan Gravenberch of Bayern Munich among the options under consideration.
