legend Gary Neville believes Liverpool have a ‘big problem’ in the transfer market and have no option but to panic following Chelsea’s deals for and .
The Blues completed a £115million deal for Caicedo on Monday night and they expect to finalise a deal for Southampton midfielder Lavia in the next 48 hours.
Liverpool had agreed a deal for Caicedo, only for the Brighton ace to inform the Reds he wanted to join Chelsea.
Similarly, Lavia made it clear that he favoured a move to Stamford Bridge but Liverpool had three bids rejected for the Belgian by that point.
It leaves Jurgen Klopp short in midfield following the exits of Fabinho, Jordan Henderson and James Milner.
And Neville says the Reds now have a ‘big problem’ because they’ve been blown away by Chelsea’s spending power.
‘If buy both of those players, there will be massive questions like at Liverpool asked based on what’s happened. in the last week. This is very un-Liverpool-like,’ Neville told Monday Night Football.
‘We know Chelsea have spent big money, but for them to beat Liverpool to both players, it would be absolutely stunning.
‘They’ve let Milner, Henderson and Fabinho go before they’ve got someone in, which what I thought Liverpool were quite smart at is bringing the people in before they expose themselves. Obviously, Milner left and they got two fees for those two.
‘They’ve got a big problem now, they’re going to be panicking in the transfer window over the next three weeks. Liverpool don’t do that under . They’ve been so smooth and efficient in the transfer market. I don’t know how that’s happened, obviously, it’s to do with personnel.’
