Liverpool are in negotiations to sign United prospect Amara Nallo, a young defender very highly thought of at the east club.
The 16-year-old was one of 12 academy talents to sign scholarship deals at West Ham in May this year, having made appearances for the club’s Under-18 side.
However, Liverpool are looking to swoop for him before he gets to the Hammers first team, with transfer expert reporting that talks are underway between the clubs.
Clearly the youngster would not be a signing for the first team at Anfield just yet, but would join the Reds’ academy, with his 17th birthday coming in November this year.
Former West Ham and England striker Carlton Cole is a coach with the Hammers’ Under-16 side and has been full of praise for Nallo, expecting big things in his future.
When Nallo signed his scholarship terms earlier this year, Cole said of him: ‘I would describe Amara as a Rolls Royce of a centre-back.
‘He has a great left foot and is elegant when he moves with the ball. He can play the ball with both feet and has been working on his heading as well.
‘He’s a player who has a high ceiling.’
The Reds may still be quite busy in the transfer market before the window closes later in the summer, with the hunt ongoing for more additions to the midfield.
