Liverpool are set to complete the signing of Fulham’s teenage star Fabio Carvalho this summer.

The Reds tried to arrange a deal for the 19-year-old in January but ran out of time on deadline day, leaving the winger to complete the final six months of his contract at Craven Cottage. Now, they are returning to secure a transfer in time for .

Because of Carvalho’s age, the Reds will be forced to pay a fee for his signing, with reporting that the deal will be be worth around £4m. Another £2m in add-ons could potentially be owed, and Fulham will be due 20 percent of any future sale.

Personal terms had already been agreed between player and club in the winter, and have been used as the template for the new agreement, which is set to last until at least 2027.

Carvalho was born in Portugal and progressed through Benfica’s youth system before moving to with his family in 2013, where he joined Fulham. Since then, he has represented England at uder-18 level, but was called up to the Portugal under-22 squad for their European Championship qualifiers in March.

Fulham are top of the Championship with an eleven point advantage over second-placed Bournemouth, and are almost guaranteed to be promoted back to the Premier League as champions ahead of the 2022/23 campaign. Carvalho has contributed an impressive eight goals to their campaign.

Liverpool and Fulham went through a similar transfer process process in 2019, when the Reds agreed a contract with Harvey Elliott, whose deal with the Cottagers was expiring. On that occasion, though, the clubs could not reach an agreement, and a tribunal process was required.

The Reds paid £4.3m for Elliott in the end, which already seems like a bargain for a player who has made a significant impact on Jurgen Klopp’s team this season, despite suffering a serious ankle injury away at Leeds United early on in the campaign.
