Diego Forlan has been impressed with his compatriot in the Premier League so far, although believes he can and will improve at Liverpool.
Nunez arrived at Liverpool from Benfica over the summer in a big money move worth an initial £64m, but could rise to as much as £85m.
The 23-year-old’s progress was hampered by an early red card against for a headbutt, while he has also gone under the radar due to the blistering start to life in England made by striker .
However, Nunez has scored five goals in his first 10 Premier League appearances and nine goals in 18 games across all competitions, so it has been a solid start and former Manchester United striker Forlan thinks he has been good.
Forlan expects big things from his fellow Uruguayan, especially as he is under the guidance of Jurgen Klopp at Anfield.
‘I think he’s been good. I think maybe everybody was expecting more goals or maybe because of the amount of money they paid for him but I think he’s really good,’ Forlan told of Nunez.
‘He’s been scoring goals, he’s playing. It’s difficult, now also the team is struggling a little bit because in the Premier League they’re not doing the way they were doing the last couple of years.
‘But he has a great manager, very experienced. He will learn a lot with him and also with the players.
‘So I think he’s doing his job and of course he can improve, and he will improve in the future.’
Nunez will star at the World Cup this winter for Uruguay, involved in the squad alongside veteran former Premier League forwards Luis Suarez and Edinson Cavani.
