Lucas Torreira’s agent has revealed the forgotten midfielder has been handed an unlikely chance to revive his Gunners career.
The Uruguay international featured prominently during the early months of Mikel Arteta’s tenure but hasn’t played for the north club in nearly two years.
Torreira, who joined from Sampdoria back in the summer of 2018, spent a season on loan at after moved in the opposite direction.
The combative midfielder struggled to win a regular place in Diego Simeone’s team and after again being deemed surplus to requirements by Arsenal, spent last term at Fiorentina.
Torreira was hopeful of making his move to Fiorentina a permanent one, but the Serie A club were unable to meeting Arsenal’s valuation.
A disappointed Torreira said earlier this week: ‘There is no chance (of staying at Arsenal).
‘From the beginning they told me that I didn’t have a place, so I don’t want to stay either because I suffered a lot, it cost me a lot to adapt and my idea is to go to Italy or Spain.
‘What I wanted was to stay at Fiorentina, but it didn’t happen for various reasons, so we’ll look for a new direction.’
Arsenal, however, have struggled to bring in midfield reinforcements so far this summer and could now appear to have turned to Torreira as a solution to an increasingly concerning area of weakness in their squad.
Pablo Bentancur, the agent of the 26-year-old, said: ‘Lucas to Juventus? In fact, he would like to stay andplay in Italy.
‘But today, Arsenal has called him up for the tour they will do in America, so he seems to be part of the program.’
