Luke Shaw says he is enjoying his battles with in training, while it is also a healthy fight for a first team place with another summer signing, Tyrell Malacia.

Antony arrived from while Malacia signed from Feyenoord in the first transfer window under Erik ten Hag’s management, with both making encouraging starts to life in the Premier League.

The Brazilian winger has scored three goals in his first six Premier League games, while Malacia has looked good at left-back, with him and Shaw sharing first-team duties so far.

Shaw has been very impressed with Antony in training and in matches, but believes he has much more to show on the biggest stages.

‘We have good battles in training, and it’s really good to be able to train against someone like him with such high quality,’ Shaw told . ‘Game by game, he’s getting better and better and, in the game against Newcastle, he was Man of the Match for me.

‘He looks really confident, he’s running past players and coming inside and creating chances and scoring goals. He’s in a really good moment and we know there is still more to come, but he’s taking the right steps and that’s really good for the team.’

It has been an interesting scrap for the left-back slot between Shaw and Malacia so far as it has already swung one way then the other.

The Englishman started the first two league games of the season, which ended in defeats, so in came the Netherlands international who impressed, but Shaw has managed to regain his place and started the last four top flight matches.

The battle for a place in the starting XI will continue, but Shaw says it is a friendly one with the 23-year-old.

‘It’s about keeping fit and keeping that high level consistently,’ Shaw said of the fight to stay in the team. ‘Tyrell has obviously been playing as well and playing really well, and I think that’s really good, for the manager to have competition in different positions, and both of us performing at a good level.

‘I really like Ty; I sit next to him in the changing room and he’s a really nice guy and an extremely good player.

‘He’s still very young and we get on really well and, for both of us, it’s nice to get on well with someone who is in your position. That really helps because, when he plays, I want him to do the best for the team and I know he has the same feeling for me.’
