A statement from the champions on Monday read: ‘Manchester City are aware of the tragic news that one of our supporters passed away following a medical incident at yesterday’s match.
‘The thoughts of everyone at the Club are with their family and friends at this incredibly difficult time.’
An eyewitness told that the incident occurred outside the ground prior to kick-off at 4.30pm, with stewards rushing to try and save the victim.
‘We were going into the grounds at entrance K and the gent was on the floor having CPR performed on him,’ they told the Manchester publication.
‘It had just happened as there were only a few people in front of us. There was one steward working on him, and we were all screaming for them to get a defibrillator. It was chaos.
‘A young girl ran over to get the defibrillator. At this point more stewards came running over and formed a circle around him.
‘They worked on him for a long time, about 20 minutes and he was taken into an ambulance. We are all traumatised by it.’
