have rejected three bids from Old Trafford for with making the midfielder one of his top summer targets.
United will not be held to ransom, however, and which was turned away last Friday.
The Manchester club are prepared to move onto other targets with a report last week .
Erik ten Hag’s interest in Booth appears to date back to last summer.
Earlier this month, former Premier League striker McCarthy, gave an interview with South African radio station , discussing how he landed his role as a first-team coach at Old Trafford shortly after ten Hag’s arrival last year.
McCarthy explained ten Hag reached out to his agent Rob Moore, who also represents Taylor, to ask about the midfielder before inviting the South Africa legend to join his staff.
‘Erik ten Hag, the manager, came in and he spoke to my agent Rob Moore about one of the players that was playing in Holland. He asked Rob about an American player that Rob also managed,’ McCarthy explained.
‘They were just speaking about that and once the conversation had ended, he asked him: “By the way, how’s Benni doing? Is he still working in South Africa?”
‘He told him he’s back in Scotland said to Rob for me to give him a call and possibly if I could possibly come see him in Manchester.
‘When Rob told me the manager wanted to come and see him, there was a massive lump in my throat. I called him, I spoke to him and he asked me to come down and deliver a training session.’
Ten Hag returned to the Eredivisie to sign Lisandro Martinez, Antony and Tyrell Malacia last summer and retains strong links with another of his former sides in Utrecht, who he managed for two years before joining Ajax.
Celta Vigo, Stuttgart and Lyon are also among the sides interested in signing Booth.
