United and PSG have also held talks this summer over a move for Manuel Ugarte, who is eager to make a move to Old Trafford.

Ten Hag wants the club to bring in a new central midfielder with the Uruguay international identified as a top target but so far PSG have held firm in their valuation.

The French champions are holding out for £60m for the player they signed one year ago with United unwilling to meet that number, now considering other options.

Ugarte has been left out of training matches by head coach Luis Enrique, according to reports in France, with RMC reporting negotiations with United are likely to continue in the final weeks of the summer transfer window.

United have signed four new players this summer with Joshua Zirkzee and Leny Yoro initially arriving from Bologna and Lille respectively.

On Tuesday, the club confirmed the arrivals of Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui in a double transfer worth just under £60million.
