Manchester City ‘a level above’ but Liverpool their closest challengers, reckons Jamie Carragher

believes Liverpool are the team most likely to challenge Manchester City for the title, although the Reds legend feels the champions are still a level above their rivals.

’s team played out an epic 4-4 draw with at Stamford Bridge on Sunday afternoon, with goals from Erling Haaland (2), Manuel Akanji and Rodri not enough to secure three points.

The thrilling draw kept City at the top of the table, just one point ahead of Liverpool and Arsenal after their wins over the weekend and two ahead of Spurs after they were beaten by Wolves on Saturday.

After the international break Manchester City host Liverpool in a top of the table clash on 25 November and Carragher feels his former club can go there with some confidence and can challenge the champions for the title this season.

‘Why shouldn’t Liverpool go there and believe that they can be in this title race?’ Carragher said on Sky Sports.

‘They are the one team that’s really pushed over these last few years.

‘It is a new Liverpool team, but they could still be Manchester CIty’s biggest challengers because they’ve got players and a manager who has been there before.’

Carragher may be backing Liverpool to get closest to Manchester City this campaign, but is still expecting to see the same champions as last season.

‘I still think that Manchester City are a level above Liverpool and right, now,’ he said. ‘That might change over the next four or five months, those teams might grow, certainly Liverpool who have got a lot of new players.

‘But City, it feels like we haven’t seen the real City so far this season and they’re still top of the league.’
