Brighton are interested in signing star Scott McTominay as a replacement for .
The Ecuador international is set to leave the Seagulls this summer, with and Manchester United battling for his signature.
The 21-year-old is valued at around £80m by Brighton, though they could achieve a higher fee if United and Chelsea directly compete against one another.
Chelsea are said to have already agreed personal terms with Caicedo, but they’re unwilling to meet Brighton’s £80m asking price.
That could open the door to United and CBS Sports say Brighton are interested in signing McTominay as a replacement.
Though Erik ten Hag would prefer to keep McTominay, his sale could raise around £30m and allow the Dutchman to reinvest into other areas of his squad.
United’s budget of around £120m this summer will not allow them to sign Caicedo for a fee of £80m but using McTominay – either in a part-exchange deal or selling directly to Brighton – could effectively lower the price for Caicedo.
Mason Mount is set to complete a £55m deal to the club in the next 48 hours and United will then look to complete a move for Andre Onana.
However, Inter Milan rejected the club’s initial £34.4m offer for the Cameroon international.
Ten Hag wants a goalkeeper, centre forward and defender once Mount completes his move to Old Trafford.
McTominay, Fred, Anthony Martial, Donny van de Beek, Alex Telles, Eric Bailly and Dean Henderson could all be sold to raise funds.
