The Red Devils are seeking a new central midfielder in the transfer window following the departures of and .

Kante, whose contract at runs out next year, would be a strong addition with his vast Premier League experience and track record of winning trophies at Stamford Bridge.

However, according to , United are concerned about the Frenchman’s injury problems which saw him miss large parts of last season.

On Friday, reports in Spain suggested De Jong has agreed a move to Old Trafford from Barcelona.

At 25-years-old, De Jong represents a smart signing for the future but the Dutchman will cost considerably more than the 31-year-old Kante.

United have also been linked with Declan Rice but reaching a deal for West Ham’s captain seems unlikely with the Hammers wanting upwards of £100million.

New manager Erik ten Hag is keen to add to his squad this summer after United finished sixth last season and went a fifth successive year without a trophy.

The former Ajax boss also wants a striker and centre-half but will find it hard to lure players to Old Trafford with no Champions League football on offer.
