Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana involved in ‘verbal altercation’ with Samuel Eto’o after being dropped by Cameroon

was involved in a bust-up with Samuel Eto’o after the goalkeeper was dropped for Cameroon’s crucial group game on Tuesday.

Onana missed Cameroon’s opener after opting to continue playing for United .

The United goalkeeper was restored to the starting line-up for Cameroon’s second group game but delivered a poor performance as his side were beaten 3-1 by Senegal.

, with head coach Rigobert Song opting to give Fabrice Ondoa, who is Onana’s cousin, his second start of the tournament.

Reports claimed that Onana was furious about being axed from the starting line-up and was at the centre of a bust-up before the game with Eto’o, who is the president of Cameroon’s Football Federation.

‘It was Song who decided to change the goalkeepers and put Ondoa back as No.1 following a meeting with players from the team,’ a source close to the told Sports News Africa.

‘It was only this morning that he found out he wasn’t playing. He had a verbal altercation with Eto’o, but the latter did not respond to him.

‘Onana lost his temper on his own before calming down and remaining in the group to accept his fate.’

Cameroon ended up winning 3-2 against Gambia to finish second in Group C, which sets up a clash against Nigeria in the last-16 stage on Saturday.

Onana has already been heavily criticised for his decision to join up late with Cameroon’s squad for their AFCON campaign.

Speaking last week, former : ‘He [Onana] did not respect Cameroon. I was a player like him, and even being the most important player in my selection, I never acted in this way [arriving on the day of the match].

‘The fact that this situation is happening shows that there is a problem, perhaps even within the federation.

‘He risks losing big, because he has alienated the Cameroonian supporters, as well as many African supporters and undoubtedly certain members of the team.’
