are in talks with Cameroon in order to delay ’s departure for the Africa Cup of Nations.
The goalkeeper has been selected as part of Cameroon’s squad for the upcoming tournament, and he had been expected to miss up to four matches.
That was starting with Monday’s trip to Wigan, as Cameroon’s squad are meeting up then to prepare for the tournament.
However, the Daily Mail say United want Onana to stick around for almost a week longer so that he can play against on January 14th at Old Trafford.
That’s just 24 hours before Cameroon’s first game at the tournament, but United are hopeful of convincing the federation to let Onana fly that night.
While United are keen to keep Onana for as long as possible, the former Inter goalkeeper is equally determined to stay put.
He’s fearful of losing his spot to Altay Bayindir during his absence, following his disastrous start to life at Old Trafford.
The Cameroonian has made several mistakes since joining the club, and Bayindir is yet to be handed his debut after joining from Fenerbahce.
