Amad Diallo will ‘miss the first part of the season’ with a knee injury, have confirmed.
The 21-year-old was left ‘fearing the worst’ after being forced off the pitch just 13 minutes after coming on in a friendly win over Arsenal in July.
leading many to suspect that his season could be over before it had even begun.
On Thursday, , saying: ‘Amad sustained a knee injury during the tour of the United States that is going to keep him out of action.
‘Unfortunately, he has been ruled out of the first part of the 2023/24 campaign, and we await further details on his estimated recovery date.
‘We would like to wish Amad a speedy return to action!’
The Ivory Coast international was expected to be a part of Erik ten Hag’s first-team after a fantastic loan spell at Sunderland last season.
He scored 14 goals and made four assists to help the Black Cats to the Championship play-offs in only their first season back in the second-tier.
To date, he has made just nine appearances for the Red Devils since his £18.3million move from Atalanta in 2021.
It is a blow for the player and United who kick-off their season in just 11 days time against Wolves, followed by clashes with Tottenham, Nottingham Forest and Arsenal.
Joining Diallo on the sidelines is fellow young star Kobbie Mainoo who has been ruled out of the first part of the season with an ankle injury.
Also currently in the Red Devils’ treatment room are Anthony Martial, Tyrell Malacia and Dean Henderson.
