Ten Hag criticised the winger for not performing in training, with the former man accusing the Dutchman of lying in an explosive social media post as he claimed he was being made a scapegoat.

The 23-year-old has not been involved in the first team since and Ten Hag was tight-lipped on his future after the beat Crystal Palace 3-0 in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday, saying: ‘I don’t talk about players who are not available.’

It was put to Ten Hag that Sancho has deleted his Instagram account, which could be a step in the right direction, to which the manager said: ‘I don’t know, it’s up to him.’

Bruce, who played over 400 times for Manchester United, says that the only way forward is for Sancho to eat humble pie and apologise to his manager and teammates, then they can move forward from there.

‘The only way this is going to be resolved is if he goes in to say to the manager that he apologises,’ Bruce told Sky Sports. ‘And he apologises to his teammates.

‘He can’t go on social media and start criticising the coach. At the end of the day he’s the boss and he makes the decisions so there’s got to be a little bit of respect there.

‘I would urge him to get in there, knock on the door and see if they can work things out.

‘The kid’s a talented player, we haven’t really seen the best of him here, but we know he’s got really, really good ability. But he can’t have the issue now where there’s rules for one and rules for another.

‘Ten Hag’s been like that since he’s walked through the door, he will not put up with this ill-discipline.’
